HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

1st Grade: Let's Talk About Families	Discusses the composition of families along with the roles of various family members; talks about how family members need to show cooperation and respect in their interaction with each other
2nd Grade: Making Good Decisions About My Body	Points out that our body sizes and shapes differ; encourages children to respect themselves and take care of their bodies; helps them to understand the harmful effects of taunting and teasing; points out that exercise and nutrition play an important role in helping us look and feel healthy

5th Grade:It Happens to Everyone: Puberty for Boys and Girls	Reviews and expands on the gender-specific information learned in fourth grade; introduces puberty changes that are happening to the opposite sex as well; continued focus on respect for self and others and on seeking help from trusted adults when questions or concerns arise
6th Grade: Puberty: The Challenges and Responsibilities	Introduces fetal development and childbirth; discusses responsibilities of parenting; introduces the concept of relationships and the importance of respect; talks about the responsibilities inherent in relationships and the importance of abstinence for all young people; brief discussion of disease transmission
7th Grade: Abstinence is the Right Choice for Me	Discusses relationships and respect; frank talk about the dangers inherent in participating in sexual behavior at an early age; focuses on the positive results abstinence can bring to a young person's life
8th Grade: Developing Healthy Relationships	Discusses the characteristics of healthy relationships; defines signs of unhealthy relationships; identifies where to get help if an unhealthy relationship exists; focuses on developing heathly relationships in all areas of students' lives.
9th-12th Grades	Custom-tailored programs can be presented on issues related to abstinence; relationships and responsibilities; and sexual harassment

LIFE SKILLS

1ST Grade: Be SMART -I Know What To Do When I Feel Mad	Focuses on what to do when angry feelings arise; suggests skills for redirecting angry feelings; students discuss anger triggers and anger management skills
2nd Grade: Be SMART- I Know What To Do When Things Seem Unfair - - - -OR Be SMART-I Know What To Do If I Feel Danger	Focuses on conflict resolution; concentrates on "what's fair" and what to do if you feel something is not fair; students will use role play to understand the purpose of rules and to know how to act when rules are not in place Illustrates potentially dangerous situations; encourages awareness of possible danger; prepares the child to respond promptly and confidently when frightened; through role play, children practice strategies such as: Stop-Get Away-Tell an Adult
3rd Grade: Be SMART-I Can Stand Up For Myself	Focuses on use of "I" statements and assertive communication; students learn the difference between passive, aggressive and assertive communication, and will understand the consequences of each behavioral choice; opportunities for role play of various assertive techniques
4th Grade: Be SMART-I Can Say "NO" - - - OR Be Smart- I Know What to Do When Bullying Happens	Students will learn the value of saying "no" and walking away from conflict; with use of role play, students will practice techniques of assertive communication including: policy statements, broken record and fogging Students will learn simple solutions for avoiding bullying and for helping friends to avoid trouble; through discussion, students will learn the differences between "tattling" and "telling", and will know when to report unsafe situations; focuses on how to obtain the help of a trusted adult when needed
5th Grade: Be SMART-I'll Show Respect Because Harassment Hurts	Focuses on the many forms harassment takes; students will gain insight into how to develop strategies to cope with harassment; participants will learn how to recognize and stop gossip and rumors; students will understand that a group can be more powerful than an individual in making the bully back down
6th Grade: Be SMART-I Can Stand Up For Myself So Please Don't Pick on Me	Discusses some types of bullying that occur, with understanding of peer pressure, cliques, and shunning; helps students, through role play, to develop skills such as finding allies for support, learning to ignore the situation, and knowing how to change the situation that exists
7th Grade: Be SMART-I Can Control My Anger- - - OR   Be SMART-Stay Away from Internet Bullying	Focuses on learning anger management skills; students learn how to recognize anger triggers, become familiar with their anger cues, and identify the ways they express their own angry feelings; students will learn to consider the consequences of angry behavior, and will learn constructive ways of handling their feelings Defines cyberbullying and ways it occurs; students will gain an understanding of why the internet must be used in ways that are legal and that are respectful of self and others; students will gain an awareness of the harm that can be inflicted through internet bullying and will be able to identify techniques to advocate for themselves; students will learn techniques of responding if they become victims of an internet bully; students will be able to list personal safety techniques they should adopt for internet use
8th Grade: Be SMART-Stay Away from Internet Bullying --OR 8th Grade: It's Not Just Teasing - - It is Sexual Harassment	Defines cyberbullying and ways it occurs; students will gain an understanding of why the internet must be used in ways that are legal and that are respectful of self and others; students will gain an awareness of the harm that can be inflicted through internet bullying and will be able to identify techniques to advocate for themselves; students will learn techniques of responding if they become victims of an internet bully; students will be able to list personal safety techniques they should adopt for internet use Straightforward discussion about issues related to sexual harassment; differentiates between teasing and harassment; introduces legal issues related to harassing behavior; brings an understanding of school policy governing harassment

AFTER SCHOOL LIFE SKILLS

Kindergarten- No Name Calling - Be a Friend!	Teaches young students the characteristics of friendships and the importance of not harming others by name calling
1st, 2nd and 3rd Grades: Bullying: It's Not For Me	Helps students learn to deal with situations involving perceived unfairness, name-calling and fighting; students learn skills to follow rules, deal with situations where no rules exist, and how to use "I" statements
4th, 5th and 6th Grades: Staying Safe from Bullies	Discusses all aspects of bullying; helps students understand why people bully, and how to stay safe if you are being picked on by a bully; teaches use of "I" statements, seeking support from a trusted adult, and ways to evaluate dangerous situations and respond effectively; helps students learn to avoid becoming bullies themselves
