Focuses on the many forms harassment takes; students will gain insight into how to develop strategies to cope with harassment; participants will learn how to recognize and stop gossip and rumors; students will understand that a group can be more powerful than an individual in making the bully back down  
 
 
 
 
 
 

Defines cyberbullying and ways it occurs; students will gain an understanding of why the internet must be used in ways that are legal and that are respectful of self and others; students will gain an awareness of the harm that can be inflicted through internet bullying and will be able to identify techniques to advocate for themselves; students will learn techniques of responding if they become victims of an internet bully; students will be able to list personal safety techniques they should adopt for internet use

Straightforward discussion about issues related to sexual harassment; differentiates between teasing and harassment; introduces legal issues related to harassing behavior; brings an understanding of school policy governing harassment

 

 
 
 
9th Grade: Be SMART-Stay Away from Internet Bullying Defines cyberbullying and ways it occurs; students will gain an understanding of why the internet must be used in ways that are legal and that are respectful of self and others; students will gain an awareness of the harm that can be inflicted through internet bullying and will be able to identify techniques to advocate for themselves; students will learn techniques of responding if they become victims of an internet bully; students will be able to list personal safety techniques they should adopt for internet use

DISEASE PREVENTION: Infectious Diseases including HIV/AIDS and other STDs

 
Discusses germs carried by saliva and blood and how germs are transmitted from person to person; demonstrates proper hand-washing techniques; discusses skills to use to avoid passing colds, flu, and other transmissible diseases
 
Gives students a basic understanding of HIV/AIDS; through discussion students will learn of HIV's effect on the immune system, modes of transmission, behaviors which put a person at risk for contracting HIV, compassion towards persons living with HIV, and abstinence before marriage
 
 
Provides understanding of the most common STDs, including HIV, and their modes of transmission; discusses signs and symptoms of each and how to avoid contracting an STD; discourages behaviors that put persons at risk; stresses the importance of abstinence before marriage; provides basic information about HIV and STD counseling and testing
